They say accessories can make an outfit, and at NYFW that statement has never been truer. From chunky jewelry to quirky fur handbags, there was no shortage of ways to make a bold statement, with the accessories providing natural complements to the outfits and at times even speaking for themselves. We have highlighted the accessories trends that stole the spotlight from the Fall 2015 Runways of New York.
DONNA KAREN EAR CUFF
Donna Karen kept her entire collection simple and streamlined. A perfect illustration of this was the unique metal ear cuffs that appeared cage like, wrapping and spiraling in perfect hanging formation around the lobe of the ear. The statement ear pieces are a collaboration with jewelry designer Lynn Ban.
FENDI BOOTS WITH THE FUR
Fur and flowers were prominent leaders in this season’s Fendi collection, which was interspersed with unexpected fabrics, colours and combinations. The staple fur boots which were showcased in an assortment of multicoloured shades and styles was possibly the strongest focal point of the show.
MARC BY MARC JACOBS HIP BAG
The waist bag has made a major fashion comeback. Marc by Marc Jacob provided a practical hands free solution for the modern girl and made it look effortlessly chic at the same time. A truly statement piece if styled correctly.
NARCISO RODRIQUEZ NECK PIECE
The sculptured metal chokers that adorned the necks of Narciso Rodriquez’s collection during NYFW epitomized sophistication with a dramatically effective minimalistic element.
RAG AND BONE MARY JANE SHOES
The collection, which referenced all things vintage, took on a refreshingly modern twist for the cult favorite Mary Jane shoe, which boasted juicy pops of colour which were a nice rejuvenation for the modern era. The Rag and Bone collection conjured up nostalgic feelings in what was a clear nod to the 90’s retro aesthetics.
MARY KATRANTZOU GRAPHIC CLUTCH
Statement pop slogan bags have nothing on Mary Katrantzou’s range of innovative clutches, which showcased a disturbing clash of textures and colours that for some illogical reason seemed to work. Pink foam rubber packing set against a bright yellow plastic case provides high visual impact just like the rest of the collection, which was also unexplainably appealing.
OSCAR DE LA RENTA STATEMENT EARRINGS
Peter Copping with his inaugural Oscar De La Renta Collection proved the accessories could be just as elegant and ethereal as the gowns themselves. Standout earrings like these blue gems are sure to grab the attention of the camera ready paparazzi.
MARC BY MARC JACOBS BOW BROGUES
Leave it to Marc Jacobs to take our favorite collegial brogues and make them perfect for transitioning from office to bar. These bedazzled classics are sure to demand attention in this twist on a classic cult favourite.
ROSIE ASSOULIN FLOWER EARRINGS
Rosie Assoulin accessorised her stand out collection with single oversized earrings in multiple colours which provided a much needed feminine element to her masculine dominated collection. These earrings are the perfect way to polish off the perfect paparazzi ready outfit.
ALTUZARRA FRINGE BAG
No doubt next seasons sure to be It Bag will be Joseph Altuzarra’s lipstick red braided and fringed messenger style bag. The saddle shape, thick braid strap, fringe detail and variety of colours available will make it a cult favourite.
MICHAEL KORS FUR CLUTCH
Michael Kors didn’t hold back on the glamour element for his Fall 2015 collection, and that extended all the way to these quirky fur handbags, exhibiting all ladylike excellence amongst a backdrop of opulent garments.
PROENZA SCHOULER WRAP SHOE
Proenza Schouler showcased his version of the mule in his Fall runway collection, the standout shoes mimicking the origami inspired dresses and skirts sent down the runway that wrapped tightly around the body. These shoes are both street style photographer and paparazzi bait.
